The towers of the Dohány Street Synagogue

District VII has two faces. By day it is a neighbourhood of synagogues, prayer houses and quiet courtyards that tell of a community which shaped modern Budapest — and of its near-destruction in 1944. By night the same streets fill with the ruin bars that made the area famous.

We walk between these two worlds and ask how they belong together: how a place remembers, how it reinvents itself, and what visitors usually miss in between.
